Fifty Ninth (59th)

July 15th, 2008

Kimby and Joe are here first! Followed shortly after by Keith and Amy. Grandma is getting ready for a big open garden tomorrow, so we sit down for some garden talk! Then Deanne and Will arrive with little baby Daniel. Awwww…Noah isn’t the baby anymore. We are starting without Ali and Don because they are too late!!

kimbybabies.jpg

Kimby shares first - some of the late great George Carlin and his list of dirty words.

Ali and Don finally arrive! And Colby shares a clip of a really awesome ventriliquest on David Letterman. This guy was featured on America’s Got Talent cause he’s got talent.

donali.jpg

Then Colby shares some penguin sex! It’s “Farce of the Penguins” and everyone’s doing it, like on the Discovery channel. Baby.

Colby is the maestro and says “Don, why don’t you go” to which Don says he has nothing to share and Colby says “no, I mean, leave.” He was kidding of course, but still, Don has no share tonight. Then Colby shares a show that is on the Sundance Channel. He asks if anyone gets it (the channel) to which Don replies “I get it, but I don’t get it”. Touche’ Alright already, what is the share here? A program called “Live from Abbey Road” with Herbie Hancock and Corrinne Bailey Rae followed by a singer who had brain damage and had to learn to make music to re-wire her brain correctly.

SMOKE BREAK!

momkim.jpg

Ali is next! It’s a book she found called “God Save the Sweet Potato Queens” by Jill Connor Brown. It’s about a bunch of wacked out Southern women who get anything they want by promising blow jobs and then never deliver. The only way a man can actually collect on the promise is by offering to help with chores.

Amy shares her newest painting titled “Radiance” and talks about creating “art on a budget”. She likes being crafty. Then she shares a few songs from “Copper Woman”, a singer who was at the Women’s Herbal Symposium that her friends went to recently. It sounds very Faerie Festival-ish. Totally!

amy2.jpg

Will’s only share tonight is his “mini me”, Daniel and he passes him around to all the ladies. Deanne shares next. She is a huge scrabble dork and was going to share a documentary about scrabble competitions, but didn’t have time to watch it yet or prepare her share. She will have to bring it next time. That will be nerdtastic! So, instead, she shares a book by Anita Diamant called The Last Days of Dogtown.

Don has come up with a spontaneous share! His daughter is pregnant so he recently went with her to get an ultrasound and this was his first ever experience with the wonders of ultrasound. Isn’t it a cute little peanut so far?

dianadaniel.jpg

Joe shares a sketch he drew of Jordan Maxwell who is all about the secret societies. Don takes this opportunity to talk on his show phone like Maxwell Smart. Joe then shares a documentary called the Secret Mysteries of America’s Beginnings - all about the Freemasons. There is some creepy intro music that mysteriously started playing during dinner one night and really freaked them out. Colby asks “what about the guys who charge for their masonry work”.

don1.jpg

Then we move into the computer room for the computer related shares. Joe shows us the Brave New World Order online, we check out Brian’s shares, and Keith gives us an update on the Wise Web Chat project.

It’s getting late and there are going to be hundreds of people here tomorrow, so Colby & Diana shoo us out for the night.

Until next time!

Fifty Eighth (58th)

June 7th, 2008

It’s Kimby’s Birthday!! Yay!! And for the first time ever, First Friday is being held at her and Joe’s place. Kimby is the hostest with the mostest tonight.

kimby.jpg

Noah entertains everyone as we wait for everyone to get their poop in a group and begin sharing. Keith is called away to deal with some crazy shit going down on the homestead. He tells us he will be back when things have settled.

Ali & Don arrive, with bells on. We all talk a bit about our upcoming Solstice camping trip and just in time, Keith comes back. About the same time, Deanne and Will breeze in….now everyone is here…we can get this show on the road.

don.jpg

First share - Kimby shows us a scrapbook she made full of pictures of Noah.

Then there is a powerful “circle of Lunas” in the living room, showing off our new tats. That’s right, it’s official now - Kimby has finally gotten the sacred Luna tat that she couldn’t get two years ago when she was preggars!! Now we all match. KEEWWWLL!!

tats.jpg

Ali shares a 5 minutes son on the computer - Life is a Rock, but the Radio Rolled Me !

SMOKE BREAK!!

Colby shares next : a documentary about National Geographic photographers and what they have to go through to get the awesome pictures. Deanne says this is “nerdtastic”.

diana.jpg

Someone says something about Mike Dooble’ (as in Dooble A batteries) - okay people, we are silly goofballs.

Donny D (a new nickname perhaps? Hey I just write what you all say) is up - sharing a 19 year old rapper from Hermiston : Rupsy. He raps about how he lives with his girlfriend’s Mom. Will (also from Hermiston) brings nothing to share so just shares himself, along with Deanne and her belly which is close to popping!

kimdeenoah.jpg

Kimby is being the dick-tator tonight. She shares the infamous “I’m f**king Matt Damon” video by Sarah Silverman followed by “I’m f**king Ben Affleck” by Jimmy Kimmel. Wow, Jimmy has a lot of friends. We reminicse about how one of the tattoo guys looked like Matt Damon.

Keith has a short share - he shows us what he’s been working on lately : a website called Wise Web Chat that goes live on 8/8/08/. That is also the day the Olympics start and also Don’s birthday! A very special day indeed!

Joe shares a documentary called the 11th Hour and we comment that there should be solar panels on every house!

joe.jpg

Keith shares an episode of Dr. Who with crazy scary stone angels that come to life unless you stare at them. Everyone is thoroughly freaked out. Thanks alot! He once again comments (as usual) that everything British is better.

keith.jpg

Then we watch a video on You Tube. The only thing written about it in my notes is “go poop in your engine” and “throw your garbage in the middle of your living room and watch it turn to energy” so I can only assume it was a video about turning waste into energy.

That’s about it, folks. Until next time……

Brian’s Contribution :

briori.jpg

Fifty Seventh (57th)

May 10th, 2008

The Lambs are here first!! Followed by the AliDonasaurus !!

ali1.jpg

We chit and chat while we wait for Kimby to arrive. But she is taking forever. Where is that girl? She just lives down the street for cryin’ out loud! So, we call her for an ETA. Here’s how the conversation basically went : Amy : “Hey, are you coming or what?” - Kimby : “What?” - Amy “It’s First Friday, we’re all waiting for you” - Kimby “Holy Moly, what? When did this happen?”….and so it goes - she tells us she will be over once she gets her poop in a group and to start without her.

The sharing begins - Keith whips out his long one (uh, as in his long share, people!). It’s a full episode of Torchwood, a spin off series from Dr. Who. He tells us that all the best shows are British or based on British shows. Whoa, an episode about sex gas - we all know what that’s like! The alien gas feeds on orgasmic energy so the guy cums and then vaporizes into a pile of ashes on the floor. Grandma asks - “is this a serious television show?”. No it’s a total joke.

keith2.jpg

Kimby arrives!! Whoo hoo! (just in time to see the guy get vaporized - what timing, eh?) Check out this goofy animation of her dancing like a goofnugget!

SMOKE BREAK!!
Shannon walks out of the bathroom all calm and says “Uh, Mom, the candles are on fire”. Amy goes in to check it out and OH SHIT it’s an inferno!! The smoke alarm is blaring and a kerphuffle erupts in the hallway as everyone comes to see what the hell is going on. Amy musters all the air in her lungs to blow it out and the day is saved! That was a close one! Time to chill outside and recover from the dramatic events. On that note : here is the strange and tragic result of unprotected butt sex!! Yowch!

buttsex.jpg

Back inside, Amy shares her latest painting and describes her unique technique, which came to her in a vision (and after much trial and error and frustrating previous attempts!).

Then we enjoy Uncle Traveling Brian’s share. We watch a very strange video about flying sushi plates and then listen to his music while checking out pics of his new ventures as a tattoo artist. For the full transcript of his share, see the bottom of this post!

Next, Colby shares some of the BBC special program, Planet Earth. (once again, what did we say about the British?) The question is asked, not sure why : “Has anyone seen lost underwear??” (or is that Lost Underworld). Hey what are you up too? Oh, just chillin in my mucus hammock. Drinking a bud, watching the game…..

colby1.jpg

Don shares a Blazers season recap video and tells us about his season tickets. He offers to share them with the rest of us and Ali holds ultimate veto power!!

Amy shares scenes from the movie, Juno, and reminisces about the time she had to tell her parents she was pregnant at 17. She follows this up with songs from the soundtrack.

SMOKE BREAK

kimgran.jpg

Ali shares “Eagle vs. Shark” with Jemaine Clement (from Flight of the Conchords). It’s a “share spawn” in the sense that it wouldn’t be shared now if not for a previous share…. It’s a heartwarming love story about strange people who dress up like animals and fall in love.

Kimby is next - an episode of Spongebob - and Noah isn’t even here! Shannon comes in and wonders why a room full of adults is watching one of her favorite cartoon shows.

Colby shares again - a documentary called STEEP with crazy people flying off of mountains. Colby informs us that he is an experienced skydiver. Yet another layer of Colby that we had no idea existed. Right on, dude!

SMOKE BREAK

And we end the night with Don’s share of Guitar Hero. It’s a big hit and we all partake in the fun…..

don.jpg

amy1.jpg

kimby1.jpg

keith1.jpg

That’s it. See you next time.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Uncle Traveling Brian’s Share :
I got a 4 shares hope you dont mind me hoggin the stage, maybe if you spread them out…
Next why dont you listen to my second newest song? It’s called “Gimme 5″ like the classic jazz tune “Take 5″ cuz it’s also a wacky time signature… http://www.myspace.com/psychederelict and select the song titled “Gimme 5″
While you are in the neighborhood(but long after the song finishes), check out my newest myspace blog entitled “New ventures in body art” you will see what I have been up to in my free time…
Fifty Sixth (56th)
April 9th, 2008
Amy arrives half an hour early without her man and meanders around the garden with Diana talking about plants. Everyone is totally late! Let’s give them the raspberry!
amy.jpg
Finally Kimby arrives. Diana asks her for the pictures that she had her print out and Kimby goes to the car to retrieve them, only to discover there has been a tragic water incident and the pictures are now all wet! Dude, party foul! Diana thinks maybe she can save them (”I love my wet pictures”) but alas, they are too far gone. Kimby will have to re-do them, and fast, because Grandma has empty frames hanging on her walls! Unless of course those are meant to be portraits of our long lost cousin Blank. Could be.
Then Ali shows up, also without her man and it becomes clear that Colby will be holding the space for the Masculine energy all on his own tonight. Go Colbs!! There is lots of girly chit chat before FF truly gets started.
colby.jpg
Ali shares first - a book called “Dieting for Dummies“. Grandma thinks she said “Dieting with Dummies” and wonders if that means we should all do it together. Ali talks about how to tell what a portion size is (more than a fist full is too much!) and Amy suggests she get measurements tattooed on her body like some guy she read about in a magazine.
ali.jpg
Colby tells us he can now spy on birds mating in the garden with his state of the art peepshow birdhouse. He then shares “Rhapsody in Blue” performed by Herbie Hancock and Lang Lang from the Grammy awards and Noah is the conductor!
Kimby shares scenes from the movie “Dan in Real Life” with Steve Carell (he’s so cooooool). It is a very unprepared share, but oh so worth it when we get to enjoy the crazy singing family that reminds us of our own.
Amy shares some pictures from home - she and Keith have ventured into craftsmanship by building a kick ass altar shelf from a vision Amy had. Now they are going to start making more and selling them in their online store. She also shares various pictures of the flowers that are currently blooming in her yard.
altar.jpg
Then Amy & Kimby introduce the group to the loveable antics of Kelly through the YouTube videos : “Shoes” and “Let Me Borrow that Top“. No matter how many times they have seen this, they still can’t help but laugh at the sheer goofiness of it all.
kimby.jpg
SMOKE BREAK and Colby treats us to some Dire Straits (referring to the Band, not the economy, in case you were wondering!) There are lots of Orbs floating around out here at night. Whoa! Speaking of Orbs - check out this one right next to Diana’s head. I wonder if that’s Granny coming to hang out with us in spirit. She must be having some pretty wild dreams about now.
granny.jpg
Back inside, Colby shares some TV clips : a shadow puppet show by Raymond Crowe that was on David Letterman, and then some of Austin City Limits featuring Corinne Bailey Rae and K.T. Tunstall. We learn that the song “Black Horse and a Cherry Tree” came to her when she was driving around and saw it. So Colby will write a song about a glass and a table lamp, as that is what is in his line of sight at the moment. I’m sure it will be a smash hit.
Then we enjoy some vintage Bob Dylan. Man, he sure can’t sing, but what a poet! If people could have understood what he was saying, he probably would have been assassinated for his radical views. Noah is fascinated by the blue light coming from Colby’s record player.
colbynoah.jpg
Diana shared some of the Oprah show episode with the pregnant man and on that note :
SMOKE BREAK - lots more goofy family memories are shared and we are zoning out on Floyd, dude.
See you next time…..
Fifty Fifth (55th)
March 9th, 2008
As we wait for everyone to arrive at Mom & Don’s place, we enjoy some food (Hmmm…that is some juicy pork loin!) and chit chat including various topics such as : how everyone’s businesses are going, recent plumbing issues at the Topham home, and the Blazers in overtime!
don.jpg
The sharing eventually begins, kicked off with some Dan Fogelberg courtesy of the Colbster. Diana tells us that this guy looks like her ugly ex-husband, but she likes the spiritual message in his songs. We are all amazed - the guy definitely has skills if he can get the word “exhumed” into a love song and make it sound romantic.
colby1.jpg
Kimby is an uncultured twat, according to Grandma - “you and your Britney Spears & Hannah Montana” - okay, she may be uncultured, but she’s not 12!!
kimbygran.jpg
Ali shares next - what does she share ?? Her sexy pajamas and Don’s juicy pork loin. ZOINKS
Don steps in to share the classic slapstick comedy “Kingpin” (which Keith then borrowed and forgot to return to the video store in time - shame shame!) After this, a political and spiritual discussion ensues - but how we went from Kingpin to politics and spirituality is not clear.
Colby jumps up for an unofficial share - a new turntable platter he’s been working on !!
colby2.jpg
Joe is next with the book “The Secret Life of Plants” by Peter Tonkins. He also shares about his new business ventures, connections, and the Chelsea Sanctuary.
SMOKE BREAK!
momnoah.jpg
Kimby shares some books she found at the bins called Oregon Historical Quarterly. They are chock full of old photos, themes, and letters. She tells us the story of a woman who defied her family to marry her true love and go with him on the Oregon trail - only to get here and die, leaving her husband to have to write to her family with the tragic news. Colby adds lots of historical talk to this share and it becomes a group discussion. It is mentioned that Keith could read before Amy was born - and Mom got her driver’s license when Don was 5. Them dab nabbit cradle robbers!
Next share - a video Amy & Keith made to commemorate their 10 year anniversary (March 8th) with music and pics of the family over the years.
keithamy.jpg
cake.jpg
SMOKE BREAK
Google is getting so advanced, soon they will send people into your house to take pictures of all your stuff!
Diana shares the book “A New Earth” by Eckhart Tolle and talks about the online classes she is taking with thousands of other Oprah viewers. This sparks a meandering discussion that takes us in all kinds of directions…..
At this point, I thought we were done, but Colby has another share! It’s Nils Lofgren, a guitarist (note : not “guitar player” but “guitarist” - this is a very important distinction, highlighting the level of true artistry this guy has) It is a relaxing and enjoyable way to end the night.
Thanks everyone - you ROCK! See you next time at Diana & Colby’s - April 12th.
Fifty Fourth (54th)
February 27th, 2008
We arrive at D’s place to find a kick ass spread! Wowzers, that fruit dip thingie is the BOMB! And the crockpot is full of teriyaki chicken hmmmm… and not hot wings this time, so Amy’s safe to partake. Yay!
amy.jpg
Fiona is our guest for the evening and she starts the night off with an impromtu share of the song Date Rape by Sublime. What a heart warming story.
As Deanne tries to get her DVD player (or actually, her Xbox) to work, there is a white orb floating around on the screen. Diana just loves this, it’s her favorite show ever! In an effort to distract us from how long this set up is taking, Kimby gets up and does a hoe-down. There is an unscheduled smoke break as the technical issues are sorted out.
kimbyjig.jpg
Amy shares the “wild card” of the night - a movie she got from Blockbuster that she hasn’t even watched yet called “The Ten” a spoof of the Ten Commandments. So, skip to a random chapter and let’s see what we got. Oooh, an animated rhino that poops when he’s nervous and flowers sprout from his crap. Fun times! Oh, and Winona Ryder really “steals” the show! What is it with her and cheesy spoof movies lately - Did anyone see the Darwin Awards? Alright, moving on.
Don shares next. Some select songs from the Flight of the Conchords in concert including “If you’re into it“, “Part time model“, and our classic favorite “Business time“. Ohhhh yeah…..you know what time it is….Deanne was not present when Colby previously shared the hilarious videos from the shows, so we all inform her that she must MUST go on YouTube and watch them. (just click the links above and voila, save you the trouble of looking them up, did I!) And of course, it wouldn’t be complete without the Hiphopopotomus vs. the Rhymnocerous!
don.jpg
Kimby tells us about the unlikely singing duo of Alison Krass and Robert Plant and how it is actually quite good. She will bring some of their stuff to share next time, fo sure! Colby is also digging on this, btw.
We want to listen to something on the stereo now, and once again are having technical difficulties! Too bad we ate all the pineapple, Colby could’ve built us a stereo to get off this island! Ahhhhh……
We take this moment to once again marvel at the kick ass spread - which now offers banana cake with cream cheese frosting. Holy Moly!!
lambs.jpg
Kimby shares some of “This American Life” from NPR on her Ipod all about the girl who works in the crazy doll adoption place and Bob the weirdo Super who dumps acid on the bums and booby traps the lights. Good stuff, man.
Then Ali shares scenes from the movie “The Dead Girl” and we all reminisce about how cute Josh Brolin used to be as a Goonie. Oh, man, the 80’s are long gone, what happened?
mom.jpg
Smoke break!!
Deanne got a free maxi pad sample in the mail. Whoopie! Looks like her maxi pad is taking a ride on a rollercoaster.And Kimby shows us per comfy plastic shoes from Wal-Mart. We talk about the movie Across the Universe (which was shared recently) and Colby can’t remember much about it, even though at the time he was totally impressed with it and said it really captured the essence of that time period. Apparently, him not being able to remember also captures the essence of that time.
maxipad.jpg
Colby now introduces his epic share - his favorite of all time : Jefferson Starship (formally Airplane). There is all kinds of weird shit going on here. Baby’s coming from trees, people tripping on acid as Don (dawn) approaches. What’s he doing there? These people were totally on drugs, dude. What’s with these lyrics? Kimby doodles about Colby’s experience in the 70’s at this psychedelic concert.
doodle.jpg
Deanne does a “re-share” with her Zeppelin DVD. This was first shared at the monumental FF years ago when Joe first entered into the mix and Kimby went gaga over him. So it makes sense that this would be re-shared as the first time, there was much distraction.
Then Deanne shares some more - the movie “Laurel Canyon” - and that’s all the minutes say. Was there more? We’re not sure, but I don’t think so. I think that’s it. Yeah, yeah?
And last but not least : Uncle Traveling Brian’s contribution from afar :
Check out this band from Hawaii! 10 ft. ganja plant! Listen to the song “Pure Sugar”.
The kewl thing about this band is that they record their music in a style that has become less prevalent in these days, that is, they record in the studio, but LIVE, every musician plays together. This is something I think maybe Colby can appreciate. I wish you could hear the song “Blood Money” to get a feel for how awesome it is that they record songs live. This is how Bob Marley and the Wailers recorded their legendary first album “Catch a Fire” it captures an essence and a realness that is simply NOT present in piece by piece recordings.
So check them out, and like I said, listen to “Pure Sugar” at;
http://www.myspace.com/10footganjaplant
If yall dont mind I’d like to share one more! This is the ruggedest TRUEST hip hop duo you will ever see. They dont rap about the usual BULLSHIT. They talk about oppression, inequality, political lies, and all that. They talk about being ready for the revolution, so if any of you ever find you have to fight against the government (that’s hellbent on killing you and all else), know that Dead Prez is, more so than not, an ally. They even engage in guerrilla tactics and shit. Even though they got signed to a major label, they blew off the contract and made an undergroud black market album from someones apartment building. For them(hopefully for you too) it’s not about sticking it to the man, it’s about erasing the man. As time goes by you will more fully understand the significance of these kinds of resistance/rebellion. These guys are awesome. Of course, in order to appreciate it, you have to LISTEN TO THE LYRICS, (rap lyrics are fast and hard to follow, but getting stoned beforehand makes it way easier to clearly hear every syllable uttered) Listen to the song “Hip Hop” at their myspace page; http://www.myspace.com/deadprezmuzic
For those who want extra credit; google Derrick Jensen endgame
Til next time!
deanne.jpg
Fifty Third (53rd)
January 12th, 2008
Kimby arrives first with Noah who makes a beeline for the cheese tray that Amy has so carefully arranged. Oh no, he tries to grab a piece from the bottom and Amy gets so flustery she forgets how to speak “Don’t Topple, Ted Koppel” or something like that. Diana and Colby arrive next, followed by Ali and Don. (who is drunk with love!)
ffalidon.jpg
First order of business : unveil the new FF minutes site (yes, what you are looking at right now - this is it!) After that, Colby has some announcements about our Solstice camping trip. He wants some money, man.
Dr. Ali, Medicine Woman is on the job this FF, answering all kinds of medical questions. What is that bump on Noah’s head? And why is Amy’s foot so swollen?? Also, why does Kimby have to yell into her phone to get it to call someone?? These are mysteries for the ages.
Kimby shares first. It’s “Happy Feet” (in a “Snurks” case!). Whoa, these penguins don’t get out much - they are all stuck in the 70’s. We are all saddened by the trauma of penguins - all the fish in their natural habitat are stolen to feed the penguins that have been captured for the zoo. Bogus. It’s nice to see the globalization issue from the viewpoint of penguins. Kimby cried when she watched this movie and did not have happy feet at the time.
ffkimgran.jpg
Don tells us all how amazing it is that only 7 years ago, everyone was excited about the dancing baby animation, like it was the height of coolness and now they are making way cooler animations. Colby corrects him “No, it was like 7.67 years ago”
Ali & Don share next - select scenes from the HBO series “Deadwood” in which Calamity Jane curses up a storm and cracks us all up. “Stop fucking apologizing” “You fucking in there?” We think she may have Tourettes. And no, Don wasn’t around in the Old West days so how would he know what really happened?
Amy shares next - select musical numbers from the movie “Across the Universe“. We all dig on the classic Beatles tunes and Amy has a “Mystery Science Theater” moment as she summarizes the lines of the movie while watching in fast forward. “you’re always working and I’m tired of it….”
ffamymom.jpg
SMOKE BREAK
Kimby calls herself - trippy!
Colby & Diana share “The Real Dirt on Farmer John” a documentary of a very fun loopy farmer (feather boas on the tracker) who saves his family farm with CSA (Community Supported Agriculture). We are totally loving this idea and want to get in on it for sure. The organicness of the idea is just so cool. Just whatever you do, don’t let devil worship interfere with the cattle. That would be baaaaaaaad.
ffcolbs.jpg
Amy shares her “cyber massage” invention that came to her in a dream. Everyone thinks she’s loopy for thinking it would work but Colby gets on board and shows enthusiasm for the project. We’ll see if this one takes off!
Amy shares the book “Eat, Pray, Love” by Elizabeth Gilbert. Kimby loves the excerpt so much she promptly snatches up the book and starts reading it right away!
Don gives us a sports update. The Blazers have won 17 of their last 18 games - with no technical fouls. Wowzers, the Blazers are a whole new team. Kimby asks “What happened to Maurice Cheeks (their previous coach)” and Colby replies “They gave him a wedgie!”. Colby then goes on to paraphrase a completely different conversation that was nothing close to what Don actually said, but it sounded good. Keith accurately demonstrates how some drunk guy leaned back at a Blazer game and passed out on Mom’s leg and then puked.
ffblazerfans.jpg
Colby is next with a David Bromberg song from the album Midnight on the Water. He says it’s Cajun music but it’s totally Celtic, man. Dude, don’t put that thang on me!
And then Amy shares again - what does she share?? Cuntal Pain?? Yowtch - is that a country singer? No, goobers, it’s KENDALL PAYNE! She shares three songs that touch her heart and move her soul.
And to finish off the night, Colby and Diana share the first 20 minutes of the movie, Once - which features some excellent music (that Amy later went and downloaded to her mp3 player - fo shore!)
That’s it, folks! See you next time at Deanne’s place - Feb 9th.
