Fifty Fourth (54th)
We arrive at D’s place to find a kick ass spread! Wowzers, that fruit dip thingie is the BOMB! And the crockpot is full of teriyaki chicken hmmmm… and not hot wings this time, so Amy’s safe to partake. Yay!
Fiona is our guest for the evening and she starts the night off with an impromtu share of the song Date Rape by Sublime. What a heart warming story.
As Deanne tries to get her DVD player (or actually, her Xbox) to work, there is a white orb floating around on the screen. Diana just loves this, it’s her favorite show ever! In an effort to distract us from how long this set up is taking, Kimby gets up and does a hoe-down. There is an unscheduled smoke break as the technical issues are sorted out.
Amy shares the “wild card” of the night - a movie she got from Blockbuster that she hasn’t even watched yet called “The Ten” a spoof of the Ten Commandments. So, skip to a random chapter and let’s see what we got. Oooh, an animated rhino that poops when he’s nervous and flowers sprout from his crap. Fun times! Oh, and Winona Ryder really “steals” the show! What is it with her and cheesy spoof movies lately - Did anyone see the Darwin Awards? Alright, moving on.
Don shares next. Some select songs from the Flight of the Conchords in concert including “If you’re into it“, “Part time model“, and our classic favorite “Business time“. Ohhhh yeah…..you know what time it is….Deanne was not present when Colby previously shared the hilarious videos from the shows, so we all inform her that she must MUST go on YouTube and watch them. (just click the links above and voila, save you the trouble of looking them up, did I!) And of course, it wouldn’t be complete without the Hiphopopotomus vs. the Rhymnocerous!
Kimby tells us about the unlikely singing duo of Alison Krass and Robert Plant and how it is actually quite good. She will bring some of their stuff to share next time, fo sure! Colby is also digging on this, btw.
We want to listen to something on the stereo now, and once again are having technical difficulties! Too bad we ate all the pineapple, Colby could’ve built us a stereo to get off this island! Ahhhhh……
We take this moment to once again marvel at the kick ass spread - which now offers banana cake with cream cheese frosting. Holy Moly!!
Kimby shares some of “This American Life” from NPR on her Ipod all about the girl who works in the crazy doll adoption place and Bob the weirdo Super who dumps acid on the bums and booby traps the lights. Good stuff, man.
Then Ali shares scenes from the movie “The Dead Girl” and we all reminisce about how cute Josh Brolin used to be as a Goonie. Oh, man, the 80’s are long gone, what happened?
Smoke break!!
Deanne got a free maxi pad sample in the mail. Whoopie! Looks like her maxi pad is taking a ride on a rollercoaster. And Kimby shows us per comfy plastic shoes from Wal-Mart. We talk about the movie Across the Universe (which was shared recently) and Colby can’t remember much about it, even though at the time he was totally impressed with it and said it really captured the essence of that time period. Apparently, him not being able to remember also captures the essence of that time.
Colby now introduces his epic share - his favorite of all time : Jefferson Starship (formally Airplane). There is all kinds of weird shit going on here. Baby’s coming from trees, people tripping on acid as Don (dawn) approaches. What’s he doing there? These people were totally on drugs, dude. What’s with these lyrics? Kimby doodles about Colby’s experience in the 70’s at this psychedelic concert.
Deanne does a “re-share” with her Zeppelin DVD. This was first shared at the monumental FF years ago when Joe first entered into the mix and Kimby went gaga over him. So it makes sense that this would be re-shared as the first time, there was much distraction.
Then Deanne shares some more - the movie “Laurel Canyon” - and that’s all the minutes say. Was there more? We’re not sure, but I don’t think so. I think that’s it. Yeah, yeah?
And last but not least : Uncle Traveling Brian’s contribution from afar :
Check out this band from Hawaii! 10 ft. ganja plant! Listen to the song “Pure Sugar”.
The kewl thing about this band is that they record their music in a style that has become less prevalent in these days, that is, they record in the studio, but LIVE, every musician plays together. This is something I think maybe Colby can appreciate. I wish you could hear the song “Blood Money” to get a feel for how awesome it is that they record songs live. This is how Bob Marley and the Wailers recorded their legendary first album “Catch a Fire” it captures an essence and a realness that is simply NOT present in piece by piece recordings.
So check them out, and like I said, listen to “Pure Sugar” at;

If yall dont mind I’d like to share one more! This is the ruggedest TRUEST hip hop duo you will ever see. They dont rap about the usual BULLSHIT. They talk about oppression, inequality, political lies, and all that. They talk about being ready for the revolution, so if any of you ever find you have to fight against the government (that’s hellbent on killing you and all else), know that Dead Prez is, more so than not, an ally. They even engage in guerrilla tactics and shit. Even though they got signed to a major label, they blew off the contract and made an undergroud black market album from someones apartment building. For them(hopefully for you too) it’s not about sticking it to the man, it’s about erasing the man. As time goes by you will more fully understand the significance of these kinds of resistance/rebellion. These guys are awesome. Of course, in order to appreciate it, you have to LISTEN TO THE LYRICS, (rap lyrics are fast and hard to follow, but getting stoned beforehand makes it way easier to clearly hear every syllable uttered) Listen to the song “Hip Hop” at their myspace page; http://www.myspace.com/deadprezmuzic
For those who want extra credit; google Derrick Jensen endgame
Til next time!

Hey Brian!
I liked your share. Thanks! I just went back to listen again, and I listened to Wolves by Dead Prez. Pretty spot-on observation.
