The Evolution of First Friday
It all began in the autumn of 2003, whilst Colby was reminiscing about his “Tuesday Night Gas”, which he hadn’t experienced since his college days. Suddenly the idea struck his noggin to recreate this wondrous gathering with those crazy people he calls family. Thus was the seed of First Friday planted.
And then Colby said unto the family “Gather my children, and we will share our interests in music, art, culture and all around weirdness.”
On the First Friday of every month (and later the First or Second Saturday), we gather at the designated secret location to delve into the cosmic recesses of our souls, spanning time and generations to share with one another the joys of our lives. Seriously now, it’s a good thing. First Friday has brought us together and strengthened our family bond like cosmic super glue.
Through this website we’d like to share these hallmark moments with you, our true fans.
Please read the most recent edition of the First Friday Minutes and take a moment to read through the archives, complete with links to images, music, books and other sites of interest.

When I think of what we are doing here…..the essence that comes to my mind and heart is….HOME. What we are creating here is a home - a home that is not bound by walls or location - home that is an energy that surrounds each and every one of us, near or far, wherever we are. It is a sanctuary, a safe haven. In a world that seems to be spinning out of control, we have carved out a space - a space where laughter reigns and love dominates. Where we experience the freedom that no being, government, or deity could ever give us or take away.
What we have here is sacred. It is something that every human yearns for: a tribe, a family, in the truest sense of the word. We have allowed this to manifest through us because we remember a time when life was simpler. A time when the goal was not how much money you could make or how quickly you could claw your way to the top. A time when the small pleasures meant everything and the quiet voice was the one to listen to. A time when the basis of life was not competition, but sharing without expectation. A time when we experienced Unity and shared an inate knowing that the success of one is the success of all and the best gift you could give yourself is to lift your brother or sister up. A life where we each have a role to play and a gift to give, and comparing one contribution to another would be as absurd as asking if the mountain is more valueable than the sea.
This gathering may have begun as a way to learn more about each other and share our interests, but it has evolved way beyond that now. It has taken on a life of it’s own. When we gather, we share more than music, book reviews, and movie clips - we share our very essence - and it is this combined essence that has built this house, this temple. We have allowed the Universe to express itself through us. This home is a gift and a blessing - not just for us who are here now, but for others all over the world. People we have never met and may never meet. People we will meet in the future, and even those we’ve left behind in our past.
